ATLANTA, June 16, 2006 - MISSION Communications LLC announced today that it has signed a multiyear
agreement with American Water, the largest water services provider in North America, to provide
equipment and services for the emerging technology sector known as wireless to web monitoring.
Most water utility operators are required to monitor system status and provide administrative
reporting of the water systems operations. Wireless to web monitoring systems provide substantial
operational cost savings over traditional manual, phone line or private radio based methods.
American Water has a tradition spanning more than a century of providing reliable, safe drinking water.
The new monitoring systems will enable the company to continue to improve its ability to detect
and diagnose field operational issues before they affect our customers.
The wireless to web concept being used by American Water was tested for over 3 years. The system
transmits information and failure alarms directly to the field personnel responsible for the individual
water system. Previous systems required the company to custom build wide area radio or dedicated
phone line networks that were tied to a central operations computer. Wireless to web systems
utilize the new high-speed wireless data networks offered by all national cellular carriers.
MISSION offers turnkey monitoring services to the water and wastewater industry providing equipment,
cellular airtime, redundant computer facilities, web viewing tools, administrative reports and alarm
notification services. “Obviously we are delighted at the prospects of serving the largest private
