Press Release -- OPC Connection from MISSION Data to Existing SCADA Systems

ATLANTA, May 05, 2003-- MISSION Communications released its new HMI integration software today to bring data from MISSION M100 or M800 systems into existing open architecture SCADA software like WonderWare or Intellution. MISSION brings the data into the existing SCADA software via OPC server software written by MISSION. "MISSION has many customers with existing SCADA systems that simply want to expand that system with MISSION RTUs. It's a very simple and secure process," said Dave Barringer, MISSION Chief Technical Officer. "The system was designed to meet the upcoming Homeland Security and AWWA data transmission security standards. From the radio (3G systems), through the carrier to the customer database is all private IP and meets the 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard. We understand that some customers may have concerns, but this method exceeds the security standards of virtually any existing SCADA system in the water industry. Actually, many traditional SCADA systems are very easy to hack into and don't come anywhere near the security we have in our base system, even without any of the increased security options."

There are hundreds of data "tags" that give traditional SCADA system users the flexibility of bringing data from a MISSION RTU directly into their existing SCADA software as well as simultaneously into MISSION's software. "In critical sites, redundancy is often a very desirable option," said Jeffrey Collings, National Sales and Marketing Manager. "Now there is affordable end to end redundancy; a separate RTU, communications link, software and alarming system," he went on to say. Like all products from MISSION, the HMI software is simple to install and operate with typical installation time being under an hour.

Since 1999, MISSION's core competencies have been in national public wireless data networks, Internet technologies, databases, graphical user interfaces and computer telephony. MISSION specializes in combining these technologies into "packaged SCADA" systems primarily for the water and wastewater industries. Many of MISSION's features are so advanced, or unique, they have patents or are patent pending.
